CUMS Choral Composition Competition

CHORAL PIECE FOR CONCERT IN TRINITY CHAPEL CUMS CHORUS AND ORGAN 7 MARCH 2009

ELIGIBILITY

All University of Cambridge students in statu pupillari.

AWARD

The winning entry will be chosen by a jury, consisting of Timothy Brown, Stephen Cleobury, Robin Holloway and Jeremy Thurlow. It will be performed in the CUMS Lent Term concert, on 7 March, 2009, in Trinity College Chapel. An archival tape will be given to the composer.

SUBMISSION

Entries should be for a cappella chorus, or chorus with organ, and may include solo writing for up to four voices (SATB).

Duration: 5 minutes maximum.

Text: The text should be suitable for performance in a church, but need not be directly sacred. In recognition of the 800th anniversary of the University, the text should be by a Cambridge alumnus, who need not necessarily be living. If the text is not in the public domain, composers must submit a letter confirming that permission has been given from the author or poet to set the text to music.

JUDGING

Blind judging will be used. Please remove your name and other identifying information from the score itself, replacing it with a code of some sort. Separately list that code along with your name and contact information. Please include your email address.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The deadline for the competition is 1 November 2008. The winner of the competition will be announced by 15 November.
