CUMS COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2010

The Competition is open to applicants who have been in statu pupillari at Cambridge University within the last ten years.

Entrants should submit a composition for full symphony orchestra up to this number (2[2dbpic]222/4331/1T+2p/-/str), lasting no longer than six minutes. It should be of a celebratory nature and suitable for use as the opening of the 1st concert of the season. Scores should be submitted in printed/handwritten format in traditional notation (as rehearsal time will be limited). If possible, additional electronic file copies of the score in Sibelius would be welcome.

The judges will be Martin Yates, John Rutter and Robin Holloway and there is no obligation from CUMS to perform any of the pieces submitted.

If there is a winner, the prize is the performance of the piece at the CUMS I concert on 30th October 2010 in West Road Concert Hall. The composer will be expected to provide CUMS with two full scores and a set of parts in Sibelius format by 1st October 2010.

Candidates should send their CV, a formal letter of application and 3 copies of their score by the closing date of 1st September 2010. Application documents should be sent to Chloe Davidson, CUMS Orchestra Manager, West Road Concert Hall, 11 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP.
