THE CHAIRMANSHIP
Maggie was invited to take the chair for today's meeting.
We hope to elect a proper chairman at the beginning of next term.
RE-APPOINTMENT OF STEPHEN CLEOBURY
The committee voted unanimously to re-appoint Stephen Cleobury as Conductor of CUMS for a further five years from October 2004.
In accepting the appointment Stephen said that he was extremely honoured and delighted to be asked to continue and wanted to thank everyone who has expressed their confidence in his ability to do so.
Stephen does not wish to return to the status quo ante. He looks forward now to having the opportunity to present his own ideas for the future and to integrate these with the many interesting ideas that have arisen in recent discussions. He wants to move forward with CUMS in the way that the students and other performing members want it to go.
If you have ideas about the future, please do get in touch with any member of the Committee at any time - email addresses above.
CO-OPTION OF MEMBERS TO THE COMMITTEE
The committee agreed to co-opt John Barber and Dan Hyde
We have a number of additional vacancies for co-opted members.
It was suggested that we could look for people with particular areas of expertise, such as fund-raising or legal knowledge (for filling in the gaps in the constitution). There will be a brief Committee meeting at the beginning of next term to decide who else to co-opt.
If you feel you have something particular to contribute, or a suggestion to make, please get in touch with a committee member.
“CONSTITUENCY” COMMITTEES
The Committee is keen to get members involved in running the Society.
Each ensemble will elect a Committee as soon as possible.
Constituency Committees will have at least four members, and preferably more, with responsibilities mirroring those in the main committee (secretary, librarian, publicity, fixer, programme editor, etc).
The officer on the main committee will be responsible for co-ordinating the equivalent member on each Constituency Committee. This will spread the workload and will mean that four or five minds are working on the job.
Constituency Committees will be encouraged to forge links with the new Chairman. This will increase his/her awareness of the needs all ensembles within the Society.
The existing Student Convenors will get in touch shortly with more information.
FUNDING AND SPONSORSHIP
One of the major problems the Society faces is a lack of financial resources. The Committee is keen to look at new ways of generating income.
A working party will be set up next term to investigate funding
Sponsorship: some members may have useful connections amongst family and friends. Anyone with such connections is encouraged to explore possibilities over the Christmas Vacation.
CUMS II would like to go on a tour in the summer and will need to raise some sponsorship for that. Action: CUMS II
SOCIETY DINNER
Members of the Chorus had been planning a dinner for early next term.
The Committee has decided to expand this into a Society Dinner to which all members will be invited. The hope is that people from all sections will meet and get to know each other better.
Committee members are currently finding out about the cost per head and possibilities available at different Colleges
The dates currently being considered are Friday 23rd or Saturday 24th January
The full minutes will be circulated to the committee for approval within a week.
