Choral auditions

Cambridge University Symphony Chorus Auditions

Easter Term 2018

Auditions will be held in the Bateman Auditorium, Gonville & Caius College as follows:

Sunday 29th April 2018:    12.00 – 14.00

If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Mez van Slageren by emailing Please also contact Mez if you would like to audition for the Chorus but cannot make the audition time.

The audition only lasts a few minutes and you will be asked to:

  • Sing some scales and/or arpeggios to demonstrate vocal range and quality.
  • Sing a short melody and clap a short phrase: the melody and the phrase will be played twice on the piano first.
  • Complete some simple ear tests: e.g. picking out a note from a chord.
  • Sing a short passage at sight: an opportunity for a ‘second go’ is offered, credit being given for the ability to correct at a subsequent reading.

There is no need to prepare a piece.
