Choral auditions

Cambridge University Symphony Chorus Auditions

Information about Michaelmas 2017 auditions will be available later in the summer.

The next auditions to join the CU Symphony Chorus will take place on the following date:

Saturday 29 April 2017, 10.00-12.00
Bennett Room, Clare College Memorial Court, Queens’ Road

If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Paul Fray by emailing Please also contact him if you would like to audition for the Chorus but cannot make the audition time.

The audition only lasts a few minutes and you will be asked to:

  • Sing some scales and/or arpeggios to demonstrate vocal range and quality.
  • Sing a short melody and clap a short phrase: the melody and the phrase will be played twice on the piano first.
  • Complete some simple ear tests: e.g. picking out a note from a chord.
  • Sing a short passage at sight: an opportunity for a ‘second go’ is offered, credit being given for the ability to correct at a subsequent reading.

There is no need to prepare a piece.

CU Symphony Chorus rehearses weekly on Thursday nights 7.30pm – 9.45pm during the university term in St Andrew’s Street Baptist Church. Details about this year’s rehearsals and concerts can be found in the Chorus Calendar.
