Sir Stephen Cleobury (1948 – 2019)

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Sir Stephen Cleobury.

Stephen died in his hometown of York last night, 22 November, St Cecilia’s day, after a long illness.

Stephen conducted the CUMS Orchestras and CUMS Chorus for over thirty years and most recently held the position of CUMS Conductor Laureate.

He was an inspirational musician, teacher and mentor and he will be greatly missed.

Tonight’s Cambridge University Orchestra concert in West Road Concert Hall will be dedicated to Stephen.
